The senior climatologist at Environment Canada says our summer in the Quad Counties was nicer than usual, with two hurricane-sized exceptions.
Summer officially came to a close Monday morning.
David Phillips says summer was going well before the arrivals of Erin and Dorian.
Phillips tells The Hawk the weather was quite nice until the last three weeks.
“I think some people said ‘Hey- it was pretty good’,” he says. “Except at the end when we got a couple of tropical storms- Erin and Dorian- that kind of grabbed all of the attention, and certainly skewed the precipitation results.”
Phillips says temperatures were about a degree warmer than the average, even though there were fewer days above 30 degrees than usual.
He says most of the summer had relatively low precipitation, but the storms changed that.
“From Erin and Dorian, we’ve seen over 40 per cent of the total rainfall for the summer occur in the last three weeks,” he says. “They were pretty impactful kind of storms.”
Phillips says the summer will most likely be well remembered.
