The president of the Gaelic College says their new satellite campus in Inverness Co. will be a huge boost to the area.
Rodney MacDonald says $1.92 million in provincial funding, which was announced by Premier Iain Rankin Saturday, goes a long way to make the Mabou Hill College, or Beinn Mhàbu, happen.
MacDonald tells The Hawk they hope to bring in their first class in September.
“It’s going to be transformational,” he says. “We’re going to be driving through the community of Mabou in a few years and seeing young people- in their early 20s and late 20s- walking down the street from September to April.”
MacDonald says it’s good for the region in many ways, and the Gaelic culture of the region supports the lessons they aim to teach.
He says these young students are going to want to experience the area.
“They’re going to be going to the local stores, local pubs, local restaurants- they’re going to be adding to the fabric of the community,” he says. “They’re going to be utilizing the arenas, they’re going to be going to local dances and such, and adding a whole new element to our community.”
MacDonald says the project will create 20 new jobs, and that’s good for everyone.
