Government cancels review of Inverness airport proposal

The Federal Government has cancelled a review of the Inverness airport proposal.

In a statement released today Rural Economic Development Minister Bernadette Jordan says the proposal does not meet the criteria for the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, Rural and Northern Communities Infrastructure Stream.

Jordan says there isn’t enough information to say that the project will improve the quality of life in Cape Breton.

She says proponents of proposal could re-submit, but they would have to clearly demonstrate the airport would improve the quality of life for local residents.
