Councillors had a robust discussion of the Town of Port Hawkesbury’s green bin program at the regular meeting of council Tuesday night.
They were talking about feedback they’d received after the first summer of the town’s green bin program running.
Among the concerns councillors had heard from residents was the two-week wait time between pickups, which attracted some wildlife.
Council agreed to examine the cost of doing weekly pickups through the warmer months, Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton said after the meeting.
“All of council were in consensus with regard to having that discussion at budget time, and they all had their own rendition of some of the feedback that they were getting,” she said.
Overall, Chisholm-Beaton said the program was a success and that like any new municipal program, there are kinks to work out.
Also on councils radar Tuesday night was a special taxi licence application from Strait Area Transit.
The special licence would allow Strait Area Transit to do pick ups and drop off within town limits for people with mobility challenges only.
“We certainly want to make sure that our town is as accessible as possible for all people and all mobility levels,” Chisholm-Beaton said. “That’s something that I feel will add value to the mobility factor in town.”
All councillors were in support of the taxi licence.
