Councillors and senior officials within the Municipality of the District of Guysborough are getting set for their latest round of strategic planning.
The annual two-day session will take place in Stellarton at the end of January.
After January’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday, Vernon Pitts, Guysborough’s warden, said it sets the direction for the next fiscal year.
Pitts said they get into a lot, but the budget is a big part of the discussion.
“We touch on what we foresee the future tax rate is going to be in the upcoming year,” he said. “We discuss finances in regard to recreation grants, capital grants, (and) operating grants.”
Some residents have questioned why the session is held outside the municipality in recent years.
Pitts said it allows everyone to remain on task.
“There’s no interruptions from people knocking on the door (and) coming in ‘I need to talk to the CAO’ or ‘I need to talk to the warden’,” he said. “There’s none of that- you stay focused, you have a job to do, and we get the job done.”
Pitts said it’s an opportune time for councillors and senior staff members to get together with all the relevant information at their fingertips.
