The mayor of Antigonish says they were fortunate with their latest flooding.
Columbus Field at the east end of Main St. flooded following the downpour late Saturday into Sunday.
After January’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish’s mayor said there were no issues in other parts of town.
“The water was very high, (and) it did breach in Columbus Field,” she said. “No other damages were reported.”
Other areas of the town, including the Creighton Lane parking lot which runs parallel to Main St., are prone to flooding.
Boucher said that area was spared this time around.
“Usually, when we have that flooding, a lot of it has to due with ice buildup at this time of the year,” she said. “Because we have unusually warm temperatures right now, we’re not having that issue.”
Boucher said town officials didn’t have to take any action at Columbus Field, as the water drains on its own.
She said the flooding did cause the temporary closure of the town’s dog park.
