Hop to it! It’s time to get ready for Easter

What’s not to love about a holiday celebration that includes chocolate treats and colourful springtime décor? Want to make Easter extra fun and special this year–without breaking the bank? I have a few simple ideas that you are going to love.

Store bought Easter treats are great, but with a little effort, it is easy to take festive goodies to the next level.

One of my favourite ideas to make an Easter basket out of candy. Grab 4 boxes of dollar store candy (e.g. Mike and Ikes or Nerds) and use hot glue to attach the ends of the boxes together.

Then, glue a piece of cardboard (from your recycling bin) to the bottom, and add a handle made from Froot Loops strung onto a pipe cleaner.

Finish the basket by filling it with Easter grass and your favourite chocolate treats.

Homemade cookies are excellent too—especially when they include candy coated chocolate mini eggs.

This time of year, I often substitute mini eggs for chocolate chips in my favourite chocolate chip cookie recipe. No bake chocolate oatmeal “haystack” bird nest cookies are also an annual holiday favorite in my home.

Before the no-bake cookies set, I turn each one into a little nest by adding three eggs to the centre. Making a few different types of cookies and creating an Easter dessert charcuterie board is guaranteed to impress family and friends.

Every get-together needs a fun cocktail or mocktail, and I have the perfect option for Easter.

Grab a package of cotton candy, pull out a piece, form it into a round shape, and put it in a cellophane bag with a label that says, “bunny tail”. Then, to make a bunny tail mocktail, fill a wine glass with 7Up, pop the bunny tail on top, and add a colourful straw.

Everyone will love this fun drink, and it couldn’t be easier to make.

And, if you have little ones, I have the perfect way to add a little magic to the holiday.

Consider having the Easter Bunny leave “magic jellybeans” in the kids’ baskets. The jellybeans come with instructions to plant them in sugar. The next morning, they transform into Easter treats. (Chocolate carrot suckers work well… but use whatever you like.) Fun, right?

With these simple ideas, you can make Easter extra special this year–so “hop to it” and get busy. Enjoy making magical memories with family and friends.

Happy Easter!
