Premier Tim Houston is travelling to Alberta this week to speak with leaders from Canada’s energy sector.
Houston is scheduled to attend the Canadian Energy Executive Association’s annual conference in Banff.
The conference runs Thursday through Saturday and will focus on Canada’s energy future and the country’s status as an energy superpower.
Houston is scheduled to speak at the energy business forum on the first day of the conference.
“Nova Scotia has everything it takes to be a leader in our country’s energy future,” Houston said.
The premier says the province’s offshore natural gas and wind resources could strengthen Nova Scotia and Canada.
“Harvesting these resources safely and responsibly means stronger local economies, energy security and investment opportunities for Canadians,” Houston said.
The province says it is working to responsibly develop several types of energy resources, including onshore and offshore oil and natural gas, onshore and offshore wind, solar, tidal, geothermal and bioenergy.
Government says there has been significant progress this year on energy resource development in Nova Scotia, with both international and domestic interest.
The province says Nova Scotia has an estimated 148 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 49 billion barrels of oil potential.
It also says Nova Scotia has one of the strongest offshore wind resources in North America.
Houston is scheduled to be in Banff from August 18 to 21.
He will be joined by Nicole LaFosse Parker, chief of staff and general counsel with the Premier’s Office.
