Internet projects good start, but not enough- warden

The warden of Inverness Co. says there are still gaps in the province’s high-speed internet plan.

Officials with the provincial government announced they added several high-speed upgrade projects in the region Sept. 1.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie, Inverness Co.’s warden, says some communities in the county, like Creignish, are still left out.

MacQuarrie tells The Hawk that needs to be fixed.

“There are several other misses,” she says. “People are asking if they will have improved internet as well.”

MacQuarrie says they’ll hold several community meetings to discuss the issue.

She says the 2022 completion date is a long way off, and they shouldn’t be left in the dark in the meantime.

“We’ve been waiting way too long,” she says. “I’m really hoping that they will get it under development as soon as possible, and I hope we have it sooner than that.”

MacQuarrie says all that aside, she’s happy provincial officials are finally taking serious action to improve high-speed internet access in the region.
