Inverness Co. council chooses new warden

Inverness Co. council has chosen their new warden.

Councillors elected Laurie Cranton, by secret ballot, at a swearing in ceremony Thursday.

Before carrying on with the meeting, he took a moment to speak about the need to be leaders in each district and the municipality equally.

Afterward, Cranton said it is the responsibility of each councillor.

“It’s important to balance that, so that you’re not just trying to bring back to your district all you can,” he said. “It’s looking at the whole municipality.”

Cranton said some of the challenges the districts face are different, but far more are the same.

He said that means council has a common goal.

“Not just what we’re doing in our own districts, which is important, but at the same time we need to provide leadership that looks at the county as a whole,” he said. “Some areas require water and sewer, other areas need better internet service, but all in a holistic way, a holistic approach, all of those things are good for the municipality.”

He said collaboration and teamwork is key achieving their goals and maintaining a strong council.
