Inverness Co. drug bust suspect sentenced

A man charged in relation to a drug bust in Inverness Co. has been handed a conditional sentence.

Police say they found cocaine and drug paraphernalia when they searched a Melville home in June 2019.

They originally charged Steven Leslie MacEachern, 27, with possession for the purpose of trafficking and a breach; he was released from custody following a bail hearing three days later.

MacEachern pleaded not guilty during an election-and-plea hearing in Sept. 2019; he later changed his plea to guilty to the lesser included offence of possession.

A judge sentenced him to six months of house arrest in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Thursday.

MacEachern was also charged in relation to an April 2018 bust in Sugar Camp; he was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking in relation to a Feb. 2012 bust in Port Hawkesbury.
