Inverness MLA asking for more money for snow clearing

The MLA for Inverness says more money could be coming to the region for snow clearing.

Allan MacMaster says he’s been asking NSTIR to consider more funding for areas which see more frequent and intense snow, like Inverness Co.

MacMaster tells The Hawk the current funding formula is largely based on the types and number of roads, and that doesn’t work for his riding.

“There’s no consideration given to the type of weather events you would have,” he says. “A case can be made for an area like Inverness, the constituency of Inverness, to receive more money for winter maintenance because we get a lot more storms, with a lot more severity than, say, areas of the province like Yarmouth or way down on the south shore.”

MacMaster says TIR is considering changing the way funds are allocated, and he thinks there’s a pretty good chance they will make a change in that direction.
