Nova Scotia Authors Graphic Novel Makes Barack Obama’s Favourite Book List

A book by a Cape Breton Island author and artist has made Former US President Barack Obamas list of favourite books for this year

Kate Beaton’s graphic novel called “Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands” chronicles the author’s struggle to work in the Alberta oil sands to pay off a student loan. This project takes a break from Beaton’s normally humorous material.

This was one of two independently published books to make the list.

Beaton is best known for writing and drawing comic books and children’s picture books including Hark! a Vagrant”
