Lionel Desmond Inquiry to Finish in New Year

A provincial inquiry into the Lionel Desmond triple murder-suicide is expected to finish in the new year, over three years after the inquiry was first approved.

The 33 year old Desmond was a veteran who fought in Afganistan in 2007. He was diagnosed with PTSD in 2011 as well as major depression and a possible traumatic brain injury.

In Upper Big Tracadie on January third 2017, Desmond entered his family’s home dressed in camouflaged clothing and shot his wife, their 10-year-daughter and his 52-year-old mother, before turning the gun on himself.

Family and friends of Desmond came forward after and said that he never got the help he needed from the Federal Government.

After many delays, the final submissions from participating lawyers should be in by the first of February 2022
