A band councillor with an Inverness Co. First Nations community is the new president of the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.
Annie Bernard-Daisley of We’koqma’q was elected to the position in October.
Bernard-Daisley tells The Hawk it’s her job to lobby and advocate for First Nations women and girls.
“I want to make sure- number one- that all the advocacy issues that we’re facing as Indigenous women in this province (are) spoken of- at the right place and at the right time, with the right people who can start making changes happen.”
Bernard-Daisley says she wants to open more NSNWA offices to provide services to more women across the province.
She says another one of her priorities is the Jane Paul Centre in Sydney, which is dedicated to helping First Nations women is distress.
