Local event to spark action against social isolation

Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library reps are hosting an all-day event aimed at addressing social isolation in the Quad Counties.

Sarah O’Toole, the library’s partnerships coordinator, says we all know how hard isolation can be since COVID-19.

O’Toole told The Hawk Morning Show communities have the ability to help.

“We’ve got libraries, we’ve got Lions Clubs, curling clubs and community centres,” she said. “These can all be used to create more opportunities for connection.”

O’Toole said we know who in our communities needs help.

She said we’re in the best place to give it to them.

“It really is about sparking that idea for people that this is a problem,” she said. “This is an issue that we, as communities, can address.”

“Spark a Connection” runs in-person at virtually-connected sites across the region and online Thursday.

  • Kelly MacMillan lives in Port Hawkesbury with her husband and son. She has been part of the team at 101.5 The Hawk for more than 25 years, sharing stories from around the region. You can join her weekdays from 10am until 2pm.
