Local MLA say he’s proud of provincial budget

A Quad Counties MLA says the province’s most recent budget is a strong one, despite a planned shortfall.

Randy Delorey, MLA for Antigonish, says the pandemic made it obvious early it would be a deficit budget.

Delorey tells The Hawk it’s a response to COVID-19.

“It’s a big budget, it was an important budget, but it’s one that shows that we fit very well relative to jurisdictions across the country,” he says. “I think it’s a budget that Nova Scotians will be proud of.”

Delorey says consistent balanced budgets by the Liberal government have put us into a strong position.

He says it gives us much needed flexibility to plan for recovery.

“We have more borrowing capacity,” he says. “We’re in a better fiscal position than we would be otherwise, which allows us to move forward and cover these debts.”

Delorey says the plan to go back to a balanced budget in four years, fiscal 2024/2025, is a clear indication of that.
