Local MP says, despite good news, COVID-19 isn’t over

A local member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health says the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t over yet.

Cape Breton-Canso MP Mike Kelloway says we’re only in the fifth inning.

Kelloway tells The Hawk it’s important people remember that as the province opens up.

“We all have a personal responsibility, we all have a community responsibility,” he says. “I’m concerned, just because it is the summer months and it’s easy to forget, it really is easy to forget.”

Kelloway says people must continue to follow public health protocols, including physical distancing and hygiene practices, otherwise we might see a resurgence in the virus.

He says the fastest way the virus spreads is through large crowds, so we need to keep avoiding those for some time.
