Local PPC candidate says private health care delivery options should be considered

The Central Nova candidate for the People’s Party of Canada says access to health care is his biggest concern.

Al Muir says the best way to fix issues is to change the way health care funding is distributed by modifying the funding formula and considering private delivery partnerships.

Muir tells The Hawk the public model spends too much on bureaucracy, and not enough on actual care.

“The Nova Scotia Health Authority is incredibly bloated- the problem here in the province is mismanagement of it, particularly the bureaucracy around the health care system,” he says. “This situation is the same essentially across the civil service- it’s too large for the size of this economy.”

Muir says he’s not proposing a system where people pay for their own care, but one where private partner options are available.

He says it would give residents more choice when it comes to how they access health care.

Muir says those private partners would be able to deliver services at a lower cost.
