Local sports preview (Saturday)

The AGR playoffs continue today.

At noon the St. Joseph’s Chiefs will take on the Pomquet Acadians.

At 2 p.m. the St. Andrew’s Flyers play the Heatherton Warriors.

The winner of those two game will advance to the 4 o’clock championship.

A mini-tournament to determine who advances to the 2019 RABA playoffs takes place in Petit-de-Grat.

The Isle Madame Mariners (9-11), St. Peter’s Royals (8-12) and Inverness Athletics (7-13) finished the regular season fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the six-team league, which means they have to earn a spot in the league’s main playoff tournament.

St. Peter’s squares off with Inverness at 11 a.m., while Inverness meets Isle Madame at 2 p.m.; Isle Madame will play St. Peter’s- if necessary- at 5 p.m.

The team with the best record in the mini-tournament will join the Little Anse Hawks (14-6), Louisdale Baracos (13-7) and Petit-de-Grat Red Caps (9-11) in the main league playoffs.

The StFX men’s football team opens the 2019 AUS regular season on home turf.

The X-Men, the defending AUS champions and winners of three of the last four conference titles, host the Mount Allison Mounties.

Kick off at StFX Stadium is 2 p.m.
