The Cape Breton West Islanders visit Pictou Co. to open a weekend home-and-home series in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.
The Islanders (7-9-3), who have lost six straight and eight of the last nine, are sixth in the eight-team league with 17 points, a point behind Cole Harbour for fifth, and three points ahead of seventh-place Sydney; Pictou Co. (9-9-1) is fourth with 19 points.
Cape Breton West has won two of the first three games in the season series between the teams.
Game time is 12 p.m.
The teams play the second half of the home-and-home in Port Hood Sunday afternoon.
The Battle of Cape Breton resumes in the Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League.
The Cabot Highlanders host the Cape Breton Jets in another home-and-home series.
The Highlanders (9-7-0), winners of back-to-back games and four of their last five, are tied with the Admirals for third in the eight-team league with 18 points; the Jets (1-12-2) are last with four points.
It’s the third game of the season series between the teams; the Highlanders have won the first two.
Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 6 p.m.
The teams meet again in Membertou Sunday afternoon.
There are a pair of playoff games in the Antigonish Rural Hockey League.
The St. Croix Angels square off with the County Outlaws at 7 p.m.; the Angels lead the first-round, best-of-seven series 2-0 after a 5-0 win in game two Feb. 27.
The Heatherton Warriors play the Pleasantdale Panthers at 8:30 p.m.; the Warriors evened that league semi-final series 1-1 with a 5-3 win Feb. 27.
Both games are at the Antigonish Arena.
Games four in both series are March 13.
