Local sports preview (Saturday)

The Antigonish Bulldogs meet the Miners in Membertou in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Miners lead the best-of-seven, Sid Rowe Division final 2-1 after a game three win in Antigonish Friday night.

Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The series returns to Antigonish for game five Wednesday night.

 

The Cape Breton West Islanders host Halifax for the second time in as many days as they wrap up the 2020-21 Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League regular season.

Halifax won Friday night’s game between the teams to take a 2-1 lead in the season series.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood is 1 p.m.

The Cape Breton Lynx play the Penguins in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League playoffs.

The Lynx lead the best-of-five series to determine who finishes third in the province 2-1 after a game three win in Dartmouth Friday night.

Game time is 1 p.m.

A fifth and deciding game- if necessary- will be back in Membertou Sunday afternoon.

 

The Novas travel to Truro to take on the Bearcats in their Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League playoff series.

The Bearcats won the opening game of the best-of-three, first-round series in Antigonish Friday afternoon.

Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The third and deciding game- if necessary- is in Truro Sunday night.

 

The Antigonish Rural Hockey League final gets underway.

The Pleasantdale Panthers play the St. Croix Angels in the opening game.

The Panthers (4-5-0), who came back from a 3-1 series deficit in the first round against Heatherton to advance, finished the regular season third in the four-team league with 13 points; the Angels (6-2-1), who swept the County Outlaws in the semi-finals, were in top spot with 19 points.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 7 p.m.

Game two is in Antigonish Friday.
