Local sports preview (Sunday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders host Halifax for the second time in as many days in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

Halifax won Saturday night’s game between the teams.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre in Port Hood is 12 p.m.

 

The two local teams in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League are in New Brunswick for the second day in a row.

The Northern Selects visit the Fundy Nationals at 10:45 a.m.

The Selects won Sunday’s game between the teams.

The Panthers play the EDZA East Rockets at 12:30 p.m.

 

The Cabot Highlanders host the Voyageurs for the second of back-to-back games in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

The teams played in Port Hawkesbury Saturday night; the Voyageurs won.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 12:30 p.m.

 

The Novas are back in action in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

They visit the Gulls.

The Novas are coming off a home win against South Shore in Antigonish Saturday afternoon.

Game time is 11:45 a.m.

 

The StFX women’s hockey team plays their 2019-20 AUS home opener.

The X-Women, who won their season opener against Mount Allison in Sackville Friday night, host the Dalhousie Tigers, who lost their season opener to Saint Mary’s at home Wednesday night.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 2 p.m.

 

The StFX soccer teams host the last-place Mount Allison Mounties in AUS action at StFX Stadium.

It’s the second and final regular season between the teams- the X-Men (5-1-1), who are unbeaten in five straight and are ranked eighth in the country, beat Mount Allison 6-1 in Sackville in September, while the X-Women (4-0-3), who have yet to lose in 2019, played to a scoreless tie against the Mounties the same day.

The women get underway at 1 p.m.; the men start at 3:15 p.m.
