Local sports preview (Sunday)

The Strait Pirates are on the road after they opened their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season on home ice.

They visit the Eskasoni Eagles in the second half of a season-opening home-and-home series between the teams at 7 p.m.

The Pirates won the first half of the home-and-home in Port Hawkesbury Friday night.

 

The Battle of Cape Breton resumes in the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.

The Cape Breton West Islanders meet the Sydney Rush in Membertou at 1 p.m.

It’s the second half of a home-and-home series between the teams; the Rush (2-1-0) lost to the Islanders (1-2-0) in the first half in Port Hood Thursday night.

The two local teams in the Maritime Major U18 Female Hockey League are on the road.

 

The Northern Selects, coming off Saturday’s home win against the Penguins, visit Halifax at 10:15 a.m.

The teams tied their first two games against each other Oct. 24-25.

The Cape Breton Lynx, who lost in Halifax Saturday, visit the Penguins at 12 p.m.

The Lynx and Penguins split the first two games in their six-game season series in Membertou Oct. 24-25.

 

The Cabot Highlanders host the Basin Armada for the second time in as many days in the Nova Scotia U16 AAA Hockey League.

The Highlanders won the first game between the teams Saturday night.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 12:30 p.m.

 

The Novas return home in the Nova Scotia U15 Major Hockey League.

The Novas, who beat the Rangers in East Hants Saturday afternoon, host the Valley Wildcats.

Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 12:30 p.m.
