The Cape Breton Eagles host Pleasant Valley’s Jacob Hudson, Antigonish’s Jake and Sean Stewart, and the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
It’s a match-up of the top two teams in the 10-team Eastern Conference; the Eagles (12-4-0), with wins in six of their last seven, are tied with the Wildcats (12-3-0) for top spot with 24 points, a point up on Charlottetown.
The teams have played once so far- Moncton won that game 2-1 at home Oct. 9.
Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.
It’s the first half of a home-and-home series- they meet again in Moncton Saturday night.
The StFX women’s soccer team meets the Memorial Seahawks in the quarterfinals of the 2019 AUS championship in Sydney.
The X-Women (7-0-5), who finished the 2019 regular season undefeated, were third in the 10-team conference with 26 points; the Seahawks (4-3-5) finished sixth with 17 points.
StFX and Memorial tied 2-2 in their only regular season game in Antigonish Oct. 20.
Game time is 4:30 p.m.
The winner advances to face Cape Breton in the semi-finals Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Graham Kennedy, the head coach of the X-Women, has been named the 2019 AUS coach of the year; X-Women defender Larissa White, midfielder Mercy Myles and striker Amanda Smith were named to the conference’s first all-star team.
