Local sports preview (Wednesday)

The Cape Breton Eagles visit Pleasant Valley’s Jacob Hudson, Antigonish’s Jake and Sean Stewart and the Moncton Wildcats in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Screaming Eagles (6-1-0), who have won six of their first seven games to open the 2019-20 season, are tied with Charlottetown for top spot in the 10-team Eastern Conference with 12 points, a point up on third-place Rimouski; the Wildcats (5-2-0) are tied with Quebec for fourth in the conference with 10 points.

It’s the first game of the season between the teams.

Game time is 7 p.m.

 

The StFX women’s rugby team is in Halifax to take on Saint Huskies in their final game of the 2019 AUS regular season.

The X-Women (5-0), who are ranked second in the country, have already clinched top spot in the four-team conference and a bye to the AUS championship game; the Huskies (0-5) will finish last in the conference.

StFX beat Saint Mary’s 81-7 in Antigonish in September.

Kick off is 7 p.m.
