Local sports preview (Wednesday)

The Novas open play in the major bantam division of the 2020 East Coast Ice Jam Hockey Tournament in Bedford.

They play their first game against the Eastern Express (PEI) at 1:15 p.m.

The Novas have their second game against the Port City Sharks (NB) Thursday morning; they wrap up the preliminary round against the Moncton Hawks Friday night.

The playoff portion of the tournament gets underway Saturday; the championship game is Sunday.

 

The Cape Breton Eagles are on the road in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

They visit the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Eagles (22-13-4) have won five straight to sit fifth in the 10-team Eastern Conference with 47 points, two points behind Rimouski and Charlottetown, the two teams tied for third, and six points ahead of the sixth-place Sea Dogs (20-19-1).

Cape Breton has won two of the first three games in the nine-game season series between the Maritimes Division opponents.

Game time is 7 p.m.
