A boil water advisory for those on the Louisbourg municipal water system after a water main break.
The advisory from Nova Scotia Emergency Management covers a large geographical area of Cape Breton ranging from Irish Cove, Eskasoni, North Sydney and the Town of Louisbourg, and all points in between.
Any residents supplied water by the Louisbourg Water System are affected.
The advisory took effect Wednesday morning and will remain in place until further notice while crews work to repair the damaged water main and ensure the water supply is safe.
In its public notice, CBRM advised residents to “Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute before drinking, preparing infant formula, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, cooking, brushing teeth, or any other activity that results in human consumption.”
While repair work continues, some customers may also experience disruptions to their water service. The Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change advises that during a boil water advisory, boiled water should be used not only for drinking but also for preparing beverages, infant formula, washing fruits and vegetables, making ice and brushing teeth.
Water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.
CBRM is reminding residents that the advisory remains in effect until further notice.
