There’s a push to have Peter MacKay return to federal politics.
Members of the Central Nova Conservative Riding Association say they want the former MP to represent the riding in the next federal election, which could take place as early as the fall.
MacKay, who was first elected in Central Nova in 1997 and didn’t re-offer in 2015, finished second to Erin O’Toole for the federal Conservative leadership in August.
In a release, the president of the riding association says MacKay, who recently moved home to New Glasgow and joined Saturday’s regular board of directors meeting by phone while in quarantine, told them all cards are on the table, but it would ultimately be a decision he’d make with his family members.
Ryan Sharpe says they would move to quickly open the nomination if he decides to run, so he could start campaigning as their official candidate as soon as possible.
