The warden of Richmond Co. has resigned.
Jason MacLean stepped down during Monday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
MacLean was elected warden at the midway point of the four-year term of councillors in October, unseating Brian Marchand, the municipality’s former warden.
At Monday night’s meeting, MacLean said council has been struggling to function effectively, and he has been repeatedly blindsided by rogue motions and kept in the dark on important matters for four weeks.
He said three councillors have hijacked council, and his role at this point is to hold them accountable.
MacLean said he’s stepping down, but not stepping away- he’ll continue to serve as the councillor for District 5 (L’Ardoise/Johnstown), which he has represented since 2016.
