Man accused in Halifax bomb threat has plea delayed to October

We will have to wait a little longer to hear if the man accused in the case of the bomb threat in downtown Halifax will plead guilty or go to trial.

It was Aug. 9 when police learned of the threat.

The next day, officers allegedly found a vehicle with propane tanks and flammable gas parked near the U.S. consulate. In response, police shut down several streets in the downtown core and forced people to evacuate.

54-year-old Ali Assakereh faces multiple charges, including for threatening an internationally protected diplomat.

Assakereh appeared in court by video call Thursday morning.

His defense lawyer, Kristyn Stevens, says requested to push the election or plea, saying she received more evidence from the crown Wednesday and needs more time to look at it.

Assakereh remains in custody and is set to return to court Oct. 8.
