RCMP say an Amherst man has been charged after pointing a firearm during a party, then telling police he was the victim.
Police say officers were called to a home in Cape John, Pictou Co, at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, after a man pointed a firearm at a woman and fled in a black car.
They say investigators found the original caller, 20-year-old Callan Kenneth Merrey, was the suspect and had given police false information, claiming to be the victim.
Shortly after, RCMP say officers were called to a single vehicle crash on Hwy. 104 in Antigonish Co., where a black car had hydroplaned off the road.
Police say the driver, and sole occupant, was taken to hospital and discovered to be Merrey.
They say a search of the vehicle found a gun locker with numerous firearms and ammunition inside as well as, what they suspect was, cannabis.
RCMP say officers arrested the man at hospital, taking him into custody at the Pictou Detachment once he was discharged.
Merrey has been charged with:
– Pointing a Firearm
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
– Public Mischief
– Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Prohibited
Police say he was set to appear in Pictou Provincial Court Monday, and an investigation is ongoing.
