The man at the centre of this week’s emergency alert in Chelsea is dead after being shot by an RCMP officer.
Nova Scotia’s police watchdog, SiRT, confirmed the update as it continues to investigate what happened.
SiRT says RCMP were called to the Chelsea area for reports of a man with a gun.
The man was found, and SiRT says an RCMP officer shot him.
First aid was provided, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The update, follows an emergency alert issued Wednesday night in Lunenburg and Queens counties for a dangerous man with a weapon in the Chelsea area.
RCMP said the man involved was the same person connected to that alert.
Highway 210 was closed between Old Chelsea Road and Waterloo Road while police were in the area.
SiRT says the investigation is ongoing and it will not be commenting further at this time.
The agency investigates serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, including deaths, serious injuries and matters of public interest.
