The case of a suspect arrested after a report of a sexual assault in Antigonish has opened in court.
In an email to students, officials at StFX said a student reported an off-campus sexual assault to them in January.
They said she and a friend were offered a ride by a man and woman, who were not known to them, outside a pub in the town early one January morning.
University officials said the man, who was not a member of the StFX community, then assaulted the student.
They said police arrested him, and charged him with sexual assault, assault and uttering threats.
Robert Layes, 49, was expected for election-and-plea in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday; instead, the hearing was adjourned until March 28.
