The mayor of Antigonish says there’s still work to do with homecoming weekend at StFX.
RCMP say they responded to 100 calls for service between Oct. 4-6.
They say officers issued 65 Liquor Control Act tickets, three noise bylaw tickets, and put 12 intoxicated people in cells between Oct. 4-6.
After October’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Laurie Boucher said they’ve heard positive feedback regarding police presence and people have said it was better than past years, but there is still room for improvement.
“People are saying it was a bit better (in 2019) than (in 2017), when it was really bad,” she said. “People are still acknowledging- and our council and the university- that there’s still some work to do.”
Boucher said various stakeholders have made great progress mitigating as much harm and disruption as they can in the past two years.
She said there’s only so much town officials can control.
“We can’t dictate how much the participants drink,” she said. “We can’t dictate how they move from Point A to Point B.”
Boucher said they’ve been emailing their StFX counterparts, and they plan to sit down together soon.
