The mayor of Port Hawkesbury says a new residence for the Nova Scotia Community College Strait Area Campus is wonderful news.
Provincial officials announced new NSCC capital projects in April; a 51-bed, 20,000 square foot residence for the Strait Area Campus was among them.
After May’s regular town council meeting Tuesday night, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, the town’s mayor, said the new residence will keep students in town, and provide other benefits.
“Adding that residence to our NSCC- particularly to the Nautical Institute- is going to make us more competitive on a Canadian scale, and really, a global scale.”
NSCC officials say construction on the roughly $7 million project should start soon, with the goal of opening by Sept. 2020.
