More Delays In Preliminary Inquiry Into Bridgewater Police Officer Stabbing

For the fourth time the preliminary hearing of Tobias Doucette is being delayed, this time for another year.

Tobias Doucette was supposed to stand for his preliminary hearing this July, however, earlier this month the Bridgewater Provincial Court announced it is delaying the hearing until next year due to “court availability”.

Doucette stands accused of 14 charges in connection with an altercation that took place in July 2020.

Everything stems from when Bridgewater Police responded to a domestic disturbance call on July 20.

The 31-year-old is believed to have stabbed an officer in the neck before fleeing the scene.

Doucette then led police on a multi-day manhunt during which he is alleged to have stabbed a K-9 police dog.

He was eventually found and arrested on July 25 after a call about an attempted stolen vehicle.

The preliminary hearing process is used by the Crown to determine if there is enough evidence to bring the case to trial.

Previous preliminary hearings for Doucette have been postponed due to pandemic complications, lawyer availability and other undisclosed complications.
