More Nova Scotia households to get help with home energy upgrades

More Nova Scotia households will be able to access free energy efficiency upgrades through new federal and provincial funding.

The two governments are investing a total of $26 million to expand the HomeWarming program and the African Nova Scotian Communities Retrofit Program.

The federal government is providing $20 million through the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program.

The province is contributing $6 million.

The funding is expected to help more than 1,600 additional low and moderate income households.

The programs are delivered by EfficiencyOne and support upgrades such as insulation, air sealing and heat pumps.

Energy Minister Marco MacLeod says the goal is to help people lower their monthly energy bills.

“We’re making it easier for more Nova Scotians to get the upgrades they need to lower their energy costs,” MacLeod said.

The African Nova Scotian Communities Retrofit Program provides targeted support for historically underserved communities.

African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Twila Grosse says expanding the program will help remove barriers for families seeking energy upgrades.
