More protected lands in the Quad Counties

A release from the Department of Environment says the province has protected, or expanded, 10 new nature areas.

Two are in the Quad Counties.

It includes the creation the St. Marys River Provincial Park in Guysborough Co.

The area had been privately protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

It also expands the River Denys Nature Reserve in Inverness Co.

Five wilderness areas, two other nature reserves, and another provincial park were also designated.

That brings the total protected provincial land to about 12.83 per cent. The government has committed to protecting 13 per cent.
