More than $900K for public transit in several N.S. towns

Provincial funding for six public transit services in towns across Nova Scotia.

The province says $925,000 for the Public Transit Assistance Program will help municipalities and community organizations operating a fixed-route service, buy vehicles, bus terminals, shelters and other capital.

“Having transit services available means residents have affordable options as they travel for their daily needs,” said Public Works Minister Fred Tilley. “Whether it’s a trip to the pharmacy, the grocery store or to visit friends, transportation means independence and access.”

The recipients are:

  • Antigonish Community Transit Society, $25,000
  • Cape Breton Regional Municipality, $425,000
  • Pictou County Transit Authority, $25,000
  • Strait Area Transit Co-operative Ltd., $50,000
  • Town of Bridgewater, $25,000
  • Tidal Transit in the western Annapolis Valley, $375,000.
