The mother who gave birth to a newborn that died after it went missing in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has passed away.
Police say it was Friday, May 22 when the 23-year-old arrived in hospital in life-threatening condition and appeared to have just given birth.
Her injuries appeared to be from a medical episode and not violence. And her baby was not with her.
This prompted a two-day search that lasted day and night until the remains of the infant were found Sunday afternoon in the woods off Old Coach Road.
Four people were arrested, but only two have been charged and according to the province’s prosecution service, they remain in custody.
Sukhpreet Singh, 23, and his 26-year-old wife Ramandeep, who knew the mother, appeared in court Monday and were scheduled for a bail hearing Thursday, but the matter was adjourned until June 22.
The man and woman are facing charges that include resisting a police officer, obstructing justice, concealing the body of a child and indignity to human remains.
The cause of death for the infant and mother are now under investigation.
