MP says no one thought it could happen here

A local MP says it’s the unfortunate truth attacks like this weekend’s can happen anywhere.

Central Nova MP Sean Fraser says the shooting and arson spree was a tragedy, and he mourns for the families affected.

Fraser tells The Hawk Morning Show no one believed it could happen here.

“To see a tragedy of this scale and of this brutality, in our little corner of the world, is going to have a lasting impact… This is the kind of thing that can happen anywhere, but we’ve always thought it would never be us,” he says. “This is a tragedy that will be felt by the entire province of Nova Scotia, and I dare say the entire country, for a generation.”

Fraser says it shows small towns aren’t immune to this kind of violence.

He says grieving is especially hard during the public health restrictions from COVID-19, but he’s heartened to see the creative ways people have found to support one another.

Fraser says it gives him hope.
