Mulgrave exploring potential burn bylaw

The Town of Mulgrave is exploring a burn bylaw.

Council looked at the results of a resident survey at October’s regular town council meeting Monday night.

Afterward, Mayor Ralph Hadley told The Hawk they asked people what they wanted out of a burn bylaw.

“We sent out some flyers about burning bylaws, like backyard burning and burning permits.”

Hadley said that included if people wanted to see the permits issued by the fire department, limited burn times, and other restrictions.

He said the results didn’t give them a clear mandate.

“What came back was pretty, almost even.”

He said half were in favour of town rules and the other half were happy to stick with provincial restrictions.

Hadley says they’ve asked the town’s EMO officer to investigate the matter and give a report on it before they make any further decisions.
