Mulgrave officials close council meetings in second wave

Town of Mulgrave council meetings are once again closed to members of the public.

Mulgrave town officials say the change is based on the recommendation of the emergency management officer.

After December’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Ron Chisholm, the town’s mayor, told The Hawk it’s a preventative measure in the face of the second wave of COVID-19.

“We don’t want to aid and abet it,” he said. “As a safety precaution, we’ve decided to shut (it) down.”

Chisholm said they couldn’t host a virtual meeting for December either.

He said ongoing internet issues made it impossible.

“Our internet has been, the last couple of times, it’s just been frustrating people and frustrating ourselves,” he said. “It was working fine there for a while, we had two or three Zoom meetings and never had an issue, then all of sudden, now we can’t get nothing to go right- it’s just terrible.”

Chisholm said they’ve decided on a new internet service provider, but the switch won’t be finished for three-to-four weeks.

He said they’ll record their meetings in the meantime, and post them to their website the next day.
