Officials with a local town are reopening their gallery to members of the public.
It comes after months of issues with virtual sessions.
Mulgrave officials closed their council meetings at the advice of their emergency management officer when COVID-19 cases started to spike in the fall.
Ron Chisholm, the mayor of the town, tells The Hawk they hoped to hold meetings virtually, but internet service issues made that impossible.
“We tried videoing and putting it out there,” he says. “It’s so sketchy with the internet the way it is.”
Chisholm says they’re working to fix the issues, and they’ve selected a new internet service provider.
He says they decided to reopen meetings to avoid concerns about a lack of transparency.
“What’s going on in behind the closed doors, I know people are going to start wondering why (we’re) holding off so long?” he says. “Not being able to video, I know, it’s terrible.”
Chisholm says February’s regular council meeting, which takes place Monday, will be open to members of the public.
He says they’ll use the Mulgrave Memorial Centre’s gym to maintain physical distancing requirements.
