Multimillion-dollar travel centre in Antigonish Co. delayed due to COVID-19

The chief of Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation says the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the opening of their multimillion-dollar travel centre.

Chief Paul Prosper says they’re trying to move forward how they can, but he understands how important public health measures are.

Prosper tells The Hawk there is a little frustration with the delays, but they’re keeping their eye on the prize: the positive economic impact the Bayside Travel Centre will have on the community.

“It’s been a project near and dear to our community since its inception,” he says. “Its gonna happen, so we keep that in mind, and we keep plugging away knowing that it’s going to happen sooner than we think.”

Prosper says they’re planning on a phased opening, starting with the gas station, convenience store, and NSLC, in mid-June.
