Cape Breton Canso MP Mike Kelloway made a number of funding announcements for organizations within the Quad Counties today.
All funding comes through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and is part of the Community Revitalization Fund.
The first announcement was $4,650 for Friends of Notre Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral Association in Arichat.
“They put forward a solid, solid proposal that’s focused on restoring steps and accessible ramps and railings at the entrance of Our Lady of Assumption. Allowing for easier and safer public access,” Kelloway said. “And folks, this will permit the continuation of on site tours at the 18th Century building.”
MP Kelloway followed that up by announcing $39 thousand for the Inverness Victoria Federation of Agriculture to aid them in bringing their buildings up to Code, as well as improving energy efficiency.
“To help them install heat pumps and solar panels and insulation and new windows and doors and I think it’s upgrading the new entrance in relation to improving energy efficiency and accessibility.” He said.
He later went on to announce $15,828 to the Antigonish District Nine Development Association, that money will go towards improving accessibility to Cape Jack Beach.
Kelloway further made two more announcements for groups in Richmond County.
The first being the St. Peter’s Lions Club.
They receive $7,500 towards upgrading their community ball field and walking track.
Lions Club member Gerry Gibson said that if any funds remain, they will go to help the school fix the long jump track which has started becoming overgrow.
“The long jump track is filling in as well and it needs some more upgrades to that as well, so if there’s a little bit of money left over I’ll be diverting that little bit over, it’ll be a few hundred dollars I hope.” Gibson said.
Lastly, the River Bourgeois Community Services Centre is getting $7,417 which will go towards a new equipment storage facility.
