Municipal officials pleased with proposed spaceport progress

Government officials in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough say it sounds like things are moving forward with the proposed spaceport project in Canso.

Vernon Pitts, the warden of the municipality, says Maritime Launch Services reps invited councillors and staff to see a launch in California.

He says council has authorized their development officer and CAO to attend the event; there will be high-level meetings with MLS reps at that time.

Pitts tells The Hawk once the project is completed, it will have a huge impact on the area.

“We have some very smart individuals around here and surely, I’m expecting some of them will take an apprenticeship or training,” he says. “Eventually, it’ll be our residents fully-engaged in launching those rockets.”

Pitts says there will be a transfer in technology to both the country and province.

He says MLS reps have traction and are making significant progress.
