Near misses at Mulgrave exit raise more concerns for town residents

The Mayor says near misses will eventually become accidents at Mulgrave exit.

Safety concerns about the exit on Hwy. 104 were back on the agenda at the town’s regular council meeting Monday.

Ralph Hadley said there have been several reported near misses at the intersection, and there are concerns the situation will get worse now that the Aulds Cove NSLC has opened.

Hadley told The Hawk they’re very concerned.

“About this problem we’re having at the intersection at Aulds Cove, where the trucks are coming into the Mulgrave lane that turns in; very dangerous,” he said. “I’m hoping that we can survive without someone getting hurt or run over, so I’m hoping the department of highways will jump on this as soon as possible.”

Hadley said they’ve sent a letter to the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie MLA, Lloyd Hines.

Hadley said TIR will be conducting a traffic study at the intersection now that the Aulds Cove NSLC has opened.

He said they want other municipalities whose residents use the intersection to send letters as well.
