Woman arrested in relation to arsons

A 41-year-old New Glasgow woman has been arrested in relation to several arson investigations.

New Glasgow Regional Police arrested the woman on July 10 at 8:50 a.m. at her place of residence on Stewart St., while they conducted a search warrant in relation to the arsons.

The woman is charged with seven counts of arson, two counts of Arson-Disregard for Human Life and three counts of Mischief.

The charges are the result of 10 separate investigations carried out by New Glasgow Regional Police Major Crime Unit with assistance by the members of the New Glasgow, Trenton, Stellarton Fire Departments and the Office of the Fire Marshall.

The fires took place over a year and a half, from January 5, 2020 to July 7, 2021, in the towns of New Glasgow and Trenton and included, five vacant residences, two occupied residences, one business, and three cases involving property.

The suspect has been remanded into custody and will appear in Pictou Provincial Court today, July 12.
